1916 BSA No1 Mk3*

I have a 1916 BSA No1 Mk3* that a good friend of mine gave me 7-8 years ago and I just finished rereading my copy of Stratton's book in about as many years and I have a couple of questions for the experts here. The numbers on the receiver, barrel, bolt and nose cap all match. It has a few Aussie parts on it (the OA on the magazine, for one). I'm wondering if the wood furniture on it is Queensland maple, or perhaps Coachwood? It's a little lighter color inside and looks like it has been stained a walnut color on the outside, and has the copper recoil pads on the face of the fore stock. It [the fore stock] is cut for the cut-off, although the rifle lacks the cut-off itself. I am assuming the "L" on the top of the butt stock means "long". Does the "H" on the bottom of the fore stock mean this stock's barrel channel was cut for the heavier barrel? There is not excessive clearance, at least it doesn't appear to be to me. Does any one know why the fingers on the top hand guards were cut off? What does the "C" on the barrel Knox mean? Any thing else you can tell me about it will be greatly appreciated. Just for the record, it's an extremely accurate shooter and a pleasure to shoot as well, but you already knew that anyway. Is it an Aussie rebuild?
