quality of online purchasing
IVe been wanting a springfield or a 1917 for some time now. The quality of the online selling is not that great.
Too many just want to talk to strangers, others decide at the last minute that "dont want to sell". And some have rifles with bad problems
ported, cut the barrel to remove the front sight, rear sight dove tails on A3s MILLED off,
But can anyone show me someone that genuinely wants to get rid of one? I just want a nice looking one, in correct configuration.

Check on the CMP
forum - if you look for a few days running, there are usually a couple featured. Of course, a lot depends on what you call "correct configuration" - just one in military condition?

military stock, military sights, complete barrel, complete just like it looks in period photos.
Not asking for much really. And the CMP
forums wont let me register. wont even reply to an email.

I would check the Gunbroker auction site. Many listings will have good photos that help you rule out ones that you aren't interested in. And, it's rare that anyone decides he doesn't really want to sell, because you would be able to leave bad feedback for him.

One of the best deals got removed for being a scammer.

If I were looking to buy I would check gunbroker. I have purchased half a dozen from that site over the years and all have been good honest transactions. If you see something you like, ask the seller questions and ask for more pictures if something isn't clear. Check out thier feedback. If your going for a shooter than get as much info as you can about the bore. Having to replace a barrel is getting expensive.

Watch Gunbroker completed auctions for a idea of prices. The go to CMP
and watch the for sale ads. You can find a nice rifle on cmp and on gunbroker. You need to a bit more cautious with Gunbroker. Just saw a completely fake 03a4 sell for 3K, complete with Greek return parts and stock.

I agree with the others - there is really no shortcut for doing your homework. Educate yourself before setting out.
