1903 Markings
I've just aquired a Springfield 1903 my first.Untll i get my son over to post some pics maybe you can help me when I discribe them.Starting from the muzzle 1. 2 DIFINED PUNCH MARKS RIGHT HAND SIDE OF FRONT SIGHT 2.J;UST BEHIND FRONT SIGHT THIERS A S A A FLAMING BOMB BELOW THAT AND BELOW THAT THE DATE STAMP 3-29 3. 18 INCHES DOWN FROM THE MUZZLE ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE BARREL IS THE LETTER P 3/16 TALL ITS SERIF. 4.BEHIND FRONT SCREW IN TRIGGER ASSEMBLY IS THE NUMBER 8AND THE NUMBER 1 %.THE LETTER R APPEARS ON THE BOTTOM FLAT SIDE OF RECIEVER AND ON THE UNDERSIDE OF BOLT HANDLE THERES ALSO THE NUMBER 8 BELOW THE R 5. ON THERES THE LETTER P ON THE BUTT STOCK ,ALSO ON THE LEFTSIDE OF THE BUTT STOCK ARE THE LETTERS AAC. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.

The AAC stamp is from Augusta Arsenal, it is an overhaul and rebuild stamp.

Start by giving the serial number, or the first few digits, at least. The barrel was made at Springfield Armory in March, 1929. The P on the barrel indicates the rifle barrel passed a proof-firing test (same with the P stamp just aft of the trigger guard.
Pictures would be appreciated. If the serial number matches the barrel (1,290,000 range) the receiver was originally made at Rock Island and sent to Springfield in the mid-1920s.

Thanks Rickpics are coming anoter question. There's also an E stamped in the top of the butt stock right behind where the stock and barrel assembly meet.Any clue what it myight be. THANKS Again. Tom SN is 1292303

Your receiver is indeed one that started out as a rough forging or a complete, but unmarked receiver from Rock Island.
Most of the markings you identify are unknown subinspection markings.
Here's a similar rifle with "interesting" markings on the receiver!
