Pattern 14 inspection marks
Question for the experts. Were there actual British inspectors present in the Remington, Winchester, Eddystone factories during P14 production or were the rifles inspected once they got to England

Not an expert , but I'd say at the plant . Usually , inspect , reject and return for repair or accept and pay and ship . Makes no sence to pay shipping both ways across an ocean to return a minor defective rifle with u-boats around to boot.

Everything I have read suggests British
inspectors were at the plants and that includes the No4 a war later.

This is covered in "The U.S. Enfield", by Ian Skennerton
. Inspectors were at the plants and they were sorely needed too. The British
were ripped off by Winchester and Remington the whole way through, but it was war and there was no option but to pay. It's all detailed in the book.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
