First foray into Swiss rifles - K11 Carbine...

I keep telling myself I'm not going to stray from my current collecting focus - Finn Mosins - but now and then I come across something that intrigues me enough to buy it.

I got this K11 today at a small local 'Gun Swap Meet' after going back to look at it about six times on the sellers table. I ended up trading a Finn Capture M91/30 and some cash for it.

My research tells me it was made in 1926, which is cool considering it came with a 1927 dated sling. Bore looks new, externally its in the condition I like used but not abused.

I'm pretty happy with the rifle, and can't wait to shoot it. GP11 isn't available down here, so I'm off to look at all the reloading threads...

My 2 cents. The the Finn Mosins represent as good as could be done improving on anothers bolt action design and the Swiss rifles represent the best improving on their own design.

Personally I love the Swiss firearms, it just shows people who took pride in there workmanship and craft. I prefer the Schmidt Rubin action (i.e. K11, G11, etc.) to the K31 for working the bolt, I just find it smoother. The problem is that the K11 minimum sight setting is 300m and I am generally stuck on the 100m range. A beautiful example though, thanks for sharing. Let us know how she shoots.

I've had a K-11 for about five years now.

I run it in "service rifle" comps that don't require too much fast reloading, as I have no spare mag or stripper clips.

Very pleasant to shoot considering its light weight.

Hand loads exclusively.

Mainly 155gn BJD (Oz made) HBC secant ogive bullet over 41.5gn of Mulwex AR2206. If you can't get the BJDs, Sierra 155gn Palmas work very well. The K-1 has a long throat as the old GP90 "torpedo" was still in use when the GP11 appeared in 1911 (obviously). The chambers of the later K-31 version have a short throat and will only accommodate secant ogive bullets like the GP-11 or the BJD HBC or some of the Hornady pills.

Loaded on PPY cases with an overall cartridge length of 3.059"

I ALWAYS use the Lee "Factory Crimp" die to ensure consistent neck grip and no "floating" bullets.

My eldest son seems to have taken a shine to it and is starting to get decent groups and scores.

I took this to the range for the first time today and shot the 16 rounds of older Norma ammo that came with the rifle.

Very pleasant to shoot - didn't kick as much as I expected, beautiful sights, trigger is incredibly smooth and light, and with the bolt greased up it is very slick to operate.

This was the best (and last) group of the day at 100m - a little over 3MoA. No doubt properly tuned handloads would perform better.





Somewhat surprisingly, the K11 was outshot by my M4 that arrived from the US yesterday. I've decided not to keep the K11 - it was bought on a whim, doesn't fit into my collecting focus, and I don't really need another calibre to handload for.
