A quick questiom about the Sht.22 Mk.I
When they were first built, did the Mk.I .22 cal training rifles (that were based on the Mk.I Lee Metford receiver) have a two stage trigger as per the smle?

Sweet trigger pull.
I put a single stage trigger into the build.

I went with the early Mk.I Lee Metford set up which is a little different to a ball and cup joint set of the Mk.II.
I put the rifle together as a first fit up. Tried it out in the back yard. That trigger has a sweet pull off, I wonder why they changed it on the Mk.II.
The reason that I asked whether single or double pull off is because that when I got the receiver, it had a sear fitted from a No.5. And by blind coincidence, the trigger guard that I obtained from elsewhere was fitted with a Savage marked No.4 trigger. I tried the fit up of the trigger guard assembled to the action, the pull off was two stage. Needing adjustment a bit, but it worked.
So that says something about interchangeability. No.4 and 5 parts working in an 1890 Mk.I Lee Metford.

This little project is getting there. I mounted a MLE buttstock with a little shaving of the butt tennon. Maybe I can find an original butt, or maybe I will attempt to make one.
This rifle has been put through its paces over the easter weekend. My nieces and nephews went through two bricks of ammo over three days.
The bore isn't the best but it is still a tack driver.
Restoration not quite finished, but here she is.
