Just thought I'd share some photos of my draw repair. I am very pleased with the outcome. Prior to the repair the barel would shift in the channel and there was a gap that was nearly a 10th of an inch between the forend and receiver wrist. Thank you to Mr. Laidler for sharing his expertise.

I just did my old Maltby as well.
Had a lot of slogger in it.
Only had time to fire 5 rounds to try it, but it has gone from firing a 2-foot group at 200 yds, down to 8" @200 yds. (Prone, no rest)
These days my eyes are bit of trouble, and I do need to try it more, but I am pleased and echo your thanks to Peter!!

Was there a particular reason you chose to align the new wood's grain as you did? This seems contrary to Capt. Laidler's good advice: "If it’s possible, note that I (and many other Armourers) always insert the draw patch with the grain of the wood angled for strength to the angle of the draws in the body."

Certainly seems that setting the patch so force is applied cross-grain rather than end-grain would gain significant strength and endurance.

I had looked at other photos that had the grain running with the draws. Because I am a visual learner that was what stuck in my brain rather than the Captains advice. It wasn't until after the glue had set and the patch fitted that I noticed this. I plan on shooting the riifle and analyzing afterwords. It would have been easier to chisel and form it for sure.

Whichever way the new wood is, it'll still be an awful lot better than what Wasn't there!
