Carcano M38 7.35

Thought I'd share my M38. It's a 1939, SA marked. I wanted an M38 since my grandfather brought one home from the war but his was a 6.5. So I have this very nice specimen. The stock crouches are deep and present, unfortunately the stock serial does not match the rifle but it's condition makes up that in my eyes. It's taken a while to get used to the Carcano fixed sites but I do enjoy shooting it. Just need to get the folding bayonet for it.

I also have a M38 7,35x51 Carcano in my collection. To be honest, it's my least favorite WW2 rifle. It just doesn't feel right, can't explain why.

If you do not want to spend more on the folding bayonet than the value of the rifle Sarco now has a reproduction.

Wow, I don't know how I feel about that. I don't like reproductions much in general aside from spare parts, etc. That one looks pretty good and I guess that's the problem. At $89, it's still pretty pricey.

That is what I thought. It does look pretty good though. I would like to know if anyone had one to provide a hands on evaluation.

Personally I'm interested in original period item. My weapons are just as much military artifacts as they are firearms and bayonets. I've had the same struggle as a bayonet for my No.5 MkI originals are just to much but buying a replica doesn't seem right either. I to would be interested in know if anyone has handled one, they look pretty decent.

Don't waste your money on the No 5 repros I have been there and done that. Same predicament on the Finn M39 but the poor quality on the No 5 has me convinced the original is the way to go,

I've finally gotten to the point in my life where I'm willing to let go of the money. I've also pretty much run out of the patience that I used to have. Last few rifles I've purchased have had their bayonet within two weeks to a month. I'm not going crazy but having watched prices for a long time, I'm now willing to pay the low end average rather than sit for two years waiting on that one freakishly low bid that everyone else didn't notice.

I have not yet reached the point where I will pay for a Radom Mauser bayonet because they are just crazy but I have the Finn M39, the No5 and three of the folding Carcano's. I fixed up a No5 repro so that it looks pretty good. Took some work but I am pleased with the finished result. Only repro that I have but it looks nicer than my original No5.

Thanks I had forgotten I need two Randoms for a couple of Polish Mausers.Do you have a photo of the No 5 post mod?

These are photos I posted a long time ago and are basically the mid point of the conversion. Since I took these I reworked the wood on the handle and drilled a clean out hole in the pommel. Scuffed it up a bit too.

Enfield number 5 Mk 1 Bayonet help

I like how it looks but it bugs me that it's not real. I could probably sell it as a legit RFI now if I was an unscrupulous individual.

It looks much better than these photos show. Only paid $20 for it. I also have a real set of grips and screws I could put on it to further improve it but that doesn't feel right.
