How common are P14 (F) non snipers?
I'm interested in this Pattern 1914 sub-variant. It is another interesting p14 type along with non * rifles, manufacturer differences and of course whether or not it went through WRS or not.
Anyone have any feedback on how many they've seen or an actual number on how many weren't converted into (T)s? I've only ever spotted one in all my travels and they knew what it was. $$$$!
Seems like something most eyes might miss though.

I believe he was talking about the P.14 (F) rifle, not a sniper but only with the finely adjustable rear sight. I need to admit that I've seen less P.14(F) rifles than P.14(T) rifles which also have the F sight. Probably the guys who restored snipers butchered all the F rifles

There's also some good information about P14(F) sights in the MKL
entries, comparing real ones versus reproduction versions etc..

There are HELL of good copies out there. And they are easy to convert if you have an original screw (or a good one) and know what you're doing. Not sure if the (F) rifles are only built on non-* P.14 rifles, but that would make it easier to identify originals.

I've seen two of them in the last year and a half. I bought one from Collectors' Source in Ontario Canada
for around $895.00. The stock had been sanded, and the bore was somewhat frosty but otherwise ok. I sold it to one of the advanced Enfield collectors in my area. Strangely, the specially modified rear sight was matching #'s to the receiver which is almost never the case with these rifles. The other was at the Ward's Auction in Edmonton early this spring. The sight on this one was mismatched and it sold for somewhere over a 1k . Both rifles of course were Winchester.
Were either one fakes....not sure!

Yeah the MKL
was great, it had more info on the details and repros of the sight itself than any of the books I have. As badger illustrated there is more emphasis on the actual (T)'s, so I've already read up on them a good deal.
(I'll emphasize myself on the P14 OR No3 (T) when I can afford one!)
I wantonly theorized that (F) sights only went on * rifles since they would not want to "waste" sights/bother with non standard/interchangeable Winchesters.

I own a low number Winchester with an "f" type rear sight, some debate on the stock but in reading other sources these sights were fitted by armorers in the field??

not to hijack the thread, but I had a low number Remington Patt 1914, IIRC it was serial numbered 00056 (in response to your very low number Winchester thread).

Did the serial number actually have 0's preceding the number? Haven't seen that before on a P14.
In the last year I have have seen one P14 (F) with rear sight serial numbered to the rifle. I own a NZ
marked P14 (F) which has the original F sight serial number barred out. I also own a couple F sights on their own (one still with original serial number present (not barred out) and the other without serial number at all).
P14 (F) rifles are about alright, it's just a matter of looking for the tell tale rear sight adjustment knob. Sometimes you get lucky and the owner or gunshop doesn't know what it is as with my NZ marked P14 (F)!
