I gotta upload my pictures from this weekend, I flew a helicopter!!! Not just in it but flew it from the right seat. I have to thank you jmoore. If you remember the link you posted about plane rides in my area on another thread, that lead me to Sky River helicopters. It's always been a dream of mine so the wife and I ditched the kids..
and took a flight.
I'll say this, I have the utmost respect for copter pilots now. You say to yourself, how hard can it be? Well let me tell you. Combine learning to shift a manual tranny, learning to ride a bike all the while you have a DI yelling in your face a thousand feet in the air.

Probably just "for giggles" for the aircraft mechanics as it was National AMT Day. I certainly found it more interesting than the usual static display.

Didn't even get near it, but this ugly little brute I did enjoy!

351W, custom rusty headers and had a nitrous oxide hookup. Plus roll cage and steamrollers. A real rat rod.

Apparently this aircraft was designed by a fellow in his garage so the everyday type guy could afford to fly a helicopter. At about $500K I think he missed the mark.

Most fun you can have with your pants on!!

No, I wish though. That is me though. At this place one can buy a flight which also counts as first lesson toward your Heli pilots license. I guess that's how they getaway with letting you sit in the right seat and take the controls. The real pilot takes you up to 1k feet and Hands it over. First is a crash course in a class room but ain't no class room going to prepare you for a helicopter, it's a learn by doing thing.
By far tis the hardest thing for your brain to cope with as newbie. The slightest touch on the controls and the aircraft reacts which requires corrections from your feet or the opposite hand or both. Best way to describe it is, if you think about what your doing your cooked. The pilot has to be one with the machine and fly it without thinking.
