I'm not sure what to make of this scope but it was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I know its not the right size as the ones used with the Enfield sniper set but it looks good with mine so it will do for now. Its a 4 draw about 12" and fully extended about 42" not including the shade extended. 2 1/4 inch objective lens.
No markings other than "XXIV" hand marked on all parts.
It needed work when I got it. One tube was cross threaded and one was frozen up and wouldn't extend. After fixing those and gently cleaning all the lenses its crystal clear.Missing the front lens cap and part the cap slipped onto.
One couscous thing, the sliding eye piece cover is black glass. When I look through it at a bright bulb I can just barely make out light. I wonder what the purpose of that is, to study the sun?
The leather is thin and cracking and it looks like the tubes were silver plated at one time. It fits in the leather case perfectly but it didn't come with it.
Anyone have any ideas on its age or what its intended use was? Any ideas to maker? Were unmarked scopes common back in the day?
