Chance to buy a Type 38 spotting rifle.
Yesterday at a pawn shop, I spied a Type 38 'spotting rifle'. It was in really good condition, full mum, etc....what's the rarity scale on these? As a bonus, it was sporting an authentic Thompson SMG sling. They were asking $650, I'd be willing to pay close to this ( I always haggle ) if it's a must have. What say ye?

Never heard of them before your post but there is a discussion on gunboards about them with a guy saying he paid $600 for one in 2010. They are supposed to have intact bolts, etc and usually appear to be in very good shape from the discussion. Most guys paid in the $250-$300 range because the seller didn't know what it was and that it was special.

These aren't common, but value depends greatly upon it having matching numbers, condition, and if it still has its original two proof marked bolts in the threaded portion of the butt. once you know that, i can give you an estimate
