I'm not really into Mausers (I'm more of a Mosin guy) but a few nights ago I was offered to buy a Mauser for a reasonably fairish price. Upon having a look at it I decided to scoop it up seeing as it was a RussianCapture and kinda, sorta fitted into the Soviet collection.
Made by Gustloff in 1943 (well, the barrelled receiver and sight anyway), swastikas have been pinged, but there's no 'X' on it. Typical hodge-podge of parts - the only two parts that are original matching to each other are the stock and buttplate. The buttplate has a Genschow(?) Depot marking on it.
The bore has promise - it isn't perfect but has strong rifling with minor pitting (I hate the term 'frosting' - its minor pitting).
I took the rifle to the range for a shoot yesterday, but the weather prevented me from doing anything serious with it. I was able to hit a steel plate from standing at 100m six times from 15 shots of 1954 Yugoslavian Ball. I'll give it a decent go next weekend.Information
