Mauser 1871, Mauser 1871/84 Bayonets
This seems to be a difficult one. I have been watching ebay for weeks now with almost nothing coming up. There have been half a dozen listed as 71/84 bayonets but they are incorrectly listed. Handles look correct but muzzle ring is for a long relief lug. One 1871 sold last evening way out of my price range. A lot of 1871's are "walking out" bayonets without lug attachments.
I like the brass handled 1871's but should probably get a 71/84 as that's what I have. Anyone know of a source? In the meantime, I'll keep watching ebay but perhaps I simply have not found the right search parameters.

Both the Sg71 and Sg71/84 are hard to find (often considered downright rare) and almost invariably expensive, especially - in the case of the long, brass handled Sg71 - if they come with original scabbards. Good luck, someday you might find one at your price.
As an added thought, keep in mind that the Sg71 was used on the Gew71 as well as the Gew71/84 and the Gew88 so they had a long term of service and were heavily used. The Sg71/84 was largely used by Bavarian forces as a front line weapon but was less popular with the Prussians.
Also, many Sg71/84 were later converted to the first pattern Sg84/98 and, while those are rare, do appear to be about as common as those left in their original configuration. The Sg71/84 bayonets are just hard to find.

Nicely done. A M1871/84 with regimental markings.

GERMANY shows 71's and 71/84's (although there is a mistake with a heading of 1871 for S98's) both dress and issue. The humped grips are not just on the 71/84 but on Spanish 1893's and Rumanian 1893's as well as Irish manlichers etc.

I'd been doing all the usual searches and coming up empty. But I usually just check "bayonet" each evening and this one was there last night with 58 minutes left. No model number, Mauser not mentioned. Only Id in the listing was Germany and the manufacturer. Got lucky again. I'd been searching 71, 71/84, mauser.
