Leather Ammo Belt - ID help request

Good day folks. For 35+ years I've had this used leather ammo belt that was given to me. Since it's firearms related, of course I accepted it gracefully, but I still don't have a clue about it's background. It looks like military issue, with various stampings on the outside, and faded "owner's" name written with ink pen on the reverse side. The individual pockets are too small for 308 or 30-06 rounds, but seem to accommodate 222/223 size cartridges quite nicely.

So, anyone have any ideas as to the background of this belt?

Well sir, looks like you may be bang-on. Thanks to you, I did a "googled" "Canadian Mounted Rifles," and came up with a picture and background of much similar "bandolier" (The Bandolier of F Warren (SH), S Burnett (CMR, II CMR) - 1900 - 1902 - Tech of War 11) As you can see from my photos, my belt does not have the flaps. Looking at the backside, the leather is discolored evenly to about 1/2 down from the top edge, and there are "extra" holes suggesting that there may well have been a flap that covered the bullets, but it was removed. Otherwise, this is a spitting image of the item pictured on the site.

To boot, the site is for Anglo-Boer War Museum, so I can do further follow-up with them. I'll post the results later on this site.

TAP375, There were many Colonial contingents, Australian and Canadian militia regiments amongst them that served in the Boer War. Canadian Mounted Rifles was a reasonable guess. I noticed that your belt has the fastening studs for the flaps, so it being the same style and vintage belt, albeit modified at some point, is also a reasonable conclusion.
