Bipod on a No. 5 0r No 4

Is there any way to fix a bipod to the front band of my No 5 (or to the front fore-end nose cap) of my No. 5, as it´s a hassle to carry a metal stand or a sandbag on the bike without doing too much damage to the rifle (it´s a Charnwood conversion, so not original anyway)?

There are loads of options for this but non that were originally designed for the task in hand when it was originally built as a No5 rifle.
If you want something that will do the job, I would suggest a universal barrel clamped bipod. Appreciate you can't carry the sandbag, but that would always be my option rather than the clamped on bodge which will effect your fall of shot
As far as the No4 goes leave it as it is IMHO

I´ve never seen one! Are they available .... and are there any pics? I was thinking of something that´d fit onto the front band .... or maybe the fore-end nose cap (which wouldn´t cause too much damage)

I did a custom one to suit a no5. Fabricated from steel and fibreglass.

It was to suit a versapod, and is secured by a threaded "swivel" attachment from the front band, and theres a 6mm hole in the stock accessing a threaded stainless block in the lightening groove.

Could you not just set up a Harris Bi-pod? They require a sling stud and go on or off as you like. No major mods...or am I missing something?

tbonesmith ... thanks for the pics. But I wouldn´t like to go that far (with the second screw through the fore-end stock). browningautorifle, that´s what I was hoping but don´t quite know where (or how) the `sling stud´ would fit on the fore-end.

Usually people just screw the harris fitting self tapper "sling stud" with appropriate clearance for the bipod base forward or aft of the mid band swivel.

I had a No.4 Mk.1 which had that done. Worked just fine. Easy enough to do and there's just one small hole to plug if you change your mind. (NOT something I'd recommend for a "collectable" rifle!)

You could make a replacement dobble ended sling swivle to fit into the band one end then QD stud the other end to fit the bipod to.Think of a small bar with a hole through each end one the same as a standard sling swivle, the other replicating the QD stud. rifle end o=O bipod end.
Hope you get the jist of what I am trying to say. A small bolt a drill and a file an hour or two and you should be right.
