Remington 1903A4

Hi guys. My gunsmith just offered me this Remington 1903a4 but I'm not sure if it is a real one. My opinion is, that this sniper rifle has beem assembled from spare parts. System and bolt are in used condition but the barrel, stock and ohter parts are brand new and it looks like there was mounted a front sight on the barrel before. Barrel is marked 1/44. Sale price 5500 Euro.

Are your serious ?? At 5500 Euro that's a ton of money.... I am new to Springfield finer points and don't know exactally what anything is worth...it just sounds like a bunch..

I look at the gun auction sites and do see a number of rifles in the $3000 and $4000 range...
I would think before I plunked down that much on a rifle I would want a real professional appraisal done.

The barrel is not original and neither is the stock and the scope looks awful nice for a rifle with that kind of wear. The receiver is a genuine 03A4 but here that rifle might go $2,000.

Dang, for that amound I'd consider with parting one of mine ... and they do not have a new stock (but are also in Europe!).

I agree with twh. Plus, the receiver & other parts look like someone left it out in a sandstorm; that is a LOT of wear. And, the rings are old commercial rings, not USGI.

But, difference in wear for the scope is not a problem; I don't think that I've ever seen an A4 with the "original" scope.

I misread the price and seen the price as 550 Euros.

The scope is a 330s, a commercial scope and is not correct for a 1903A4. As stated the rings are commercial too (front one is on wrong). The stock is a replacement Keystone stock but I believe is an A4 replacement, so not as much a minus as some imply. The bolt cuts are easy to duplicate but I've seen originals crude cut like that one before, so considering finish etc. I'll guess original a4 replacement, there are some great USGI parts still available in Europe so a definite possibility.
The trigger guard is the correct large bow and should have a reinforcement pad in the front. The barrel as stated is not original but should be a 12-43 or 1-44 2 groove barrel. Not sure on the current exchange with US and Euro but if it's 550 I'd jump on it.
On another note, Luxemburg holds a special place in my heart, I've been to Arlington and several other veteran cemeteries but when I stood in the US cemetery at Luxemburg I was speechless for quite some time. In the top 3 of my life events, always wanted to make it back sometime.

An original A4 barrel should not have the bright area near the muzzle they were parkerized.
Also original A4 barrels received a punch mark at the Remington factory, at 6 o'clock, under the parkerizing in the area where this one is so marked. It appears that a spare 03-A3 barrel has been mated to the original receiver and someone added the punch mark to make it look more correct.

This A4 was one of the last manufactured and most probably had a late middle version of the M73B1 telescopic sight with "click" adjustments.

Are there any indications this rifle may have been issued to a non-U.S. military?
