    91/30 Ex- sniper ?

One of 3 I picked up in 2015. All imported from a Ukranian arsenal, as far as I can tell.
All matching numbers. Imported by PW Arms.

After a good cleaning, this one stood out. It has all of the signs of being a sniper, or at least was going to be.

The stock has been spliced, where a scope mount would have been. The mount holes have been plugged and ground down. There is a scope serial number that has been struck.
The only deviation is the straight bolt, which is a stamped, matching serial number as the rest of the rifle.
With the straight bolt, would this have been a rifle that was intended for sniper use, but never fully converted to that configuration? Or, a straight bolt added after being de-snipered?
It's a '44 Izhevsk. Are the any specific markings I should look for?

They always replaced the bolt when they de-snipered them. You definitely have an ex sniper rifle that has been returned to original configuration after they no longer felt they needed all the sniper rifles.

    Thanks for the info.
This one is a real sweet shooter. It took some time to remove all the cosmolineicon.
After I stripped, cleaned and polished then reassembled the bolt parts, I reamed the chamber out with a drill with .20GA brush, lacquer thinner, then polished with jewelers rouge.
    No more "sticky bolt syndrome".

What you have is consistent with the ex-sniper rifles that have almost flooded Canadaicon over the last few years and I support Aragorn's assessment.

I have a "beater" $130 91/30 that I did a full polish on all of the bolt bearing parts and chamber, now it is a slick cycling rifle. It's no Lee action but compared to the refurbished 4 slaps bolt (slap open, slap rear, slap forward, and slap closed) it is a nice cycling rifle.

Yeah, wish I had known about the "sticky bolt" solution 25 years ago!
I sent several SAKO M39's and some Russianicon M38/44's "on down the line" due to comparison of the actions vs Mausers, Enfields.
