Not much cover.
Looks like they are really hesitant to move forward.
Good thinking/survival.

Some one or something (Weapons cannister maybe) had a prickly landing in the tree in the foreground center Left. They are all to the left of the tree trunks a suggestion fire is coming from perhaps center right.

You know...tree trunks don't stop rifle fire. I think it's an out of action shot...

Trees are the only "cover" they have.
Hope they are hard (really hard!) trees.

I suppose your right Jim but in all honesty anything is better than nothing when the lead flies are buzzing about may stop a 7.92 round but not a hope if they are facing a quad 20mm.....................

A small tree may only be concealment and not cover but I damn sure wouldn't pass it up

Better up against a tree trunk than sticking out like dog's balls out in the open.

For sure... and it will stop a puny MP40 round or grenade shrapnel, so why not. BTW, an M1
will kill you on the other side of an 18" pine tree.
Real men measure once and cut.
