Bought a poorly sporterized no. 5 mk 1 a few weeks ago...I'm in need of a bottom handguard/ foregrip and a flashhider. I've checked every part website I could find to include the usual suggestions such as Numerich, Springfield sporters, sarco, and dozens of others. I Google'd it, and searched two or 3 pages deep into the search results. I've even checked ebay. I can't find an original flashhider and only found a complete stock set for $200.00 on ebay...I don't need the complete stock set. Does anyone know of where I can find these parts outside of the normal go-to sites.

You could make the lower wood from a #4 lower. The FH could be here if you place a WTB...

You certainly can convert the much more readily available No4 forends to suit the No5. It will always be possible to tell, as you need to insert a small patch into the lightening groove in the barrel channel, & the No4 forend has a little extra wood removed where it has to clear the (redundant) cut-off block on the No4 rifle body. However, it's not very noticeable, & results in a perfectly useable forend if a little care is taken over it. The trickiest thing is to re-cut the barrel band slot, but even that isn't so hard so long as you don't try to rush it. I've done lots over the years. If you assemble the wood onto the intended rifle the barrel band groove on the handguard will 'show' you where to continue the groove into the forend.

Good original No5 wood is really at a premium, so this might be the way to go.

The last issues of wood for the No5's were all made from converted No4 wood. Thixs was done for the Crown Agents refurbishment programme in the late 60's and is said to be the reason why there were no (or very few) Mk1 fore-ends in Ordnance as spares for for the needy L42 programme. That's why the replacement spare fore-ends were all retro converted Mk2's. And pi55 poor too!

Was able to find a stock set and it should be here in about a week. My only issue now is the flash hider. I have searched pretty-much every known internet supplier of parts for this rifle and ebay. I even emailed or called companies to see if I could get lucky and find one...no luck so far except for a reproduction part at apex gun parts. This will be my last resort as I would prefer an original one. I have a WTB thread posted as well. If anyone has one they want to part with or knows of a supplier that definitely has one in stock please let me know.

I don't think you'll find any flash-hiders on the market anymore. The last ones on the market were NOS factory seconds that Sarco or one of those outfits had about 25 years ago. I bought a couple and the alignment of the interior of the 'cone' to the barrel sleeve was not quite right. Easily corrected on a lathe though. Too complicated a part for economical reproduction, even in China probably. The repros that were around are not accurate to the originals unfortunately.

A smallish shipment of originals came into Australia from somewhere about 5-10 years ago; I know they sold out pretty much the moment they cleared customs though.

There were barrels and flash hiders. No wood IIRC.
