Here's a homebuilt 1/3rd scale B-17 that a man has spent fifteen years building. Actually it is a scale-up of a 1/9th scale R/C design. It has fabric control sufaces, retractable landing gear, and power flaps.
What a project even scaling the plans up a very talented man with a very understanding wife/finance manager......Thanks for sharing I guess next will be an air test I suppose it will have to be certified to fly but what a show stopper at an airshow................
Does anyone know if the tail markings on this model mean anything special, please? Sometimes the "bomb leader's" aircraft had the tail specially marked for identification purposes.
The Triangle was the symbol of the 8th Air Force 1st Bomb Wing/1st Air Division. The "B" would make it the 92nd Bombardment Group. The were activated at Barksdale Field in Louisiana. After miscellaneous assignments they were eventually assigned to Alconbury, UK, reformed into an operational group, and assigned the Triangle B tail code. From then on they were given regular strategic bombardment missions. They also tested out the YB-40 Fortress gunship. They were transferred to RAF Podington UK in late 1943 and flew the rest of the war from there. WIKI
