Correct Bayonet for very late Springfield M1
for a 5,3xx,xxx serial # Garand
, I'm wondering what bayonet what would have been issued when the rifle was new or near new (post Korean War?).
Any suggestions would be appreciated, I've done a bit of looking in Surplus stores and on eBay and there are ALOT of choices....too many in fact.

Could have been the M1
bayonet or later the M5. They'd both be correct at some point.

Thank you. I will research both.

Why not just get them both? They would be around if you look...and remember, you want US marked I should think. There will be mint M5s around that are Danish
. I prefer the US issue marks.

You have to be careful, I think the Danish
ones are US marked. They just added a small Danish crown.

Yes...I've seen brand new ones marked HTK and such...different finish, beautiful blades they were...Eikhorn made and Danish issued I think. Look for the US manufacture name on the crosspiece.

I remember the excitement of finding one real cheap at a flea market back in my beginning days of collecting and the slight disappointment of later learning what the crown was. Still a nice bayonet and it was a bargain even being Danish
but it wasn't the incredible bargain I thought I was getting.

They did make a nice bayonet though, but I guess it was really the Germans made them...actually...

The Danish
M5's were issued as knives not bayonets
