Opinions on Type 1 lockbar and no trap buttplate

I recently purchased a Garand that had few pics on the sale ad, but it was a 3 digit so I went for it. I had been trying for a long time to fill that hole in my collection, and was interested mostly just in the receiver.

Anyhow, when I got it I was surprised to see that it had a Type-1 lockbar sight on it, as well as a no trap buttplate attached to an aftermarket stock of all things (no modification to the trap area so it fit poorly). I tried looking through my books, GCA journals, and pics on the internet but that's it for my experience with these. For what it's worth, my 2 cents are I think the lockbar and short pinion are real, but I can't tell one way or another about the buttplate so am assuming repro.

I'd really appreciate more experienced assessments on these. I wasn't expecting these parts, they were just gravy so I'm not invested in them one way or the other. Just want to know what I have, and learn more. Thanks!

I'll have to put it together again to get more pics but can add a couple more I took from before. It's an odd mix, with a few more old parts like grooved lower band, concentric ring trigger guard, D 28290 tg (modified pad), numbered and saw cut gas cylinder, single slot plug, and a nice WW2 Winchester barrel (with MW 1, TE 3). Op rod is postwar. To top it off the receiver is blued above the wood line. Can't believe I'm saying this but that blue is growing on me.

Further pics are going to be good...parts pics while it's stripped will be good too. The receiver tail shows full polish and blue though. Blue won't take to Park so that's why the lower half is so different.

I had the opportunity to purchase two up here years ago, both three digit receivers. 153 and 154 both came available quite a distance apart, but both were complete Dane rebuilds and both were staggering prices...NO original parts, and none to speak of here in Canada.

Your butt plate is late Springfield from 1940.

You have to look really close at a Type 1 lock bar with a loop, as many fakes have been made up using a sleeve but yours looks good from what I can view.

The blue receiver hurts the value quite a lot and difficult to correct with the markings already on the "thin" side

A silica sand blast and parkerize with grey finish would look great but it is what it is now, unfortunately...thing is, I don't think the OP is headed that way anyway. At least he rescued it from further unfortunateness...disasterizing...

Thank you sirs for your observations and input. And wow having 153 and 154 would be awesome, too bad about the crazy prices.

I tried taking more pics of the lockbar in different light but none came out as well as the first ones I took. I'm hesitant to do anything to the receiver at this time but am considering my options. Maybe pull off the WRA barrel and get one of those last ratworx repro gas trap assemblies, although all that are left are type II assemblies. Even then I don't know if I'd refinish. For now I'll probably keep everything as is.

During the early to mid period in 1940, some of the slides on the followers were round in the back to reduce the 20 degree back and provide more more space for the bolt (show in the middle of the photo) this was a field modification and the new revision 4 follower & slide incorporated the improvements. Your follower is late but appears that the slide was also rounded by someone

For now I'll probably keep everything as is.

Keeping it as is for now...then eventually the right situation may present it's self for refurb...looking forward to seeing more of it as you manage. There will be many more coming to chat about this one.
