No matter how he looks right now, he's happy. He has a chance to survive now.

The prisoner looks like he's had a working over and the Lieutenant with his hand on his pistol looks like he's either putting it away after using it as a blunt force weapon or getting ready to use it on an 'escaping prisoner'.
