Nomenclature question: M1907
Thank you for these images of an excellent example of this model.
I've recently been lucky enough to win one of these Spanish blades
however I've not found much data (searching in English. )
I think the nomenclature maybe: " Machete Artilleria "?
Other questions ( without results )...
Scabbard leather? Cordovan?
Nickel silver hardware & attachments?
Forged crossguard?

Nomenclature as good as any. Leather is a very soft type, not typical for scabbards. Everything except the blade is blued so no on the nickle silver. Crossguard probably forged. Looks the same as most crossguards on bayonets.

Probably made on the same line as their bayonets anyway...

I found another Spanish knife last evening. I don't have it, just discovered it on the net. Similar grips, bolo style blade. Apparently made post WWII for their special forces. A very small knife, handle barely fits your hand.

No, I don't have it and I haven't bought it either. Have to find one cheap enough to purchase first. Last night was the first time I learned of it although Old Smithy apparently has one pictured on his website that I didn't notice. All sorts of things out there I never noticed but then I do and I decide I want one, and as it seems I'm finding all sorts of Spanish items lately, why not. The weird thing is, I'M NOT SEARCHING FOR SPANISH ITEMS. Yet a sword and a knife found me and now I found another knife. I think if you do a search for a 1907 mountain knife, Spanish, it should come up. I found half a dozen sites that discuss them. Apparently not many made but postwar. All photos but one make it look like a nice normal knife. The one that doesn't shows it in a guys hand. It's small like a skinning knife. So it's either tiny or a giant was holding it. Almost all sites say it is post WWII so the 1907 nomenclature isn't accurate. They have sold recently in the $80 range which I would probably pay but one I found for sale is $175 and that's a bit over the top.

Wouldn't the soldier be expected to sharpen the blade once it had been issued to him? Perhaps this one has never been issued as such? It was my understanding that Fairbairn Sykes fighting knives were only sharpened once actually issued to a soldier?
