Help Finding British Singlepoint Sight Trials Reports
Hello everyone, I am working on researching a book on the history of reflex type sights and I am trying to locate several reports generated by the British Army in the early 1970s on the Singlepoint sight, one of the earliest red dot sights. I have looked through all the normal channels that I can think of (National Archives, MOD, Royal Armories Museum) and have not been able to turn anything up. I'm hoping that someone on here might have a copy or have any more suggestions on where I can look. In particular, I know the fourth report listed below was featured in part in R. Blake Stevens's book "UK and Commonwealth FALs" in 1980, so I know it must be out there somewhere! Here is the list of reports I am after:
Record 1:
Date: 2 Sept 1969
Source: Jungle Warfare School Trial Report
Title: Singlepoint Sight compared with Hythe Night Sight and L1A1 normal sight
Identifying Number: SAW/L1A1 Sights/1
Record 2:
Date: 29 Sept 1969
Source: Infantry Trials And Developtment Unit Trial Report
Title: Singlepoint Sight
Identifying Number: TD/Rifle/1E
Record 3:
Date: 31 March 1970
Source: G Branch, Operational Requirements and Analysis, HQ, Far East Land Forces Trial Report 4/70
Title: An Evaluation of the Singlepoint Sight
Identifying Number: FE 111937 (or 4/70)
Record 4:
Date: 12 July 1971
Source: Infantry Trials and Developtment Unit Trial Report
Title: Comparative Trial Of The RARDE Optical Sight and the Singlepoint Sight Against the Trilux Iron Sight
Identifying Number: unknown
If anyone has or knows of any other reports related to the Singlepoint or any
other early reflex sights, from England
or other governments, or any original advertising material or sights, I would be much obliged if you could drop me a line! Thanks!
