Not a "hasty sling" the Marine has reconfigured the web sling with a loop around his arm. The real advantage of this set up is it is possible to make very fine and quick length adjustments. I also relocated the swivel hook so that I could quickly attach/detach the sling on the rifle. The problem is the sling slips down on the arm when loose, although it appears that the web sling in the image has been set up on his arm in a way it won't come loose. I used to do this with web slings, wore out a few of them, and went back to a leather sling M1907 for big bore rifle match shooting as it seemed to be more stable.
BTW the "range shacks" and trees in the background reminiscent of Camp Matthews, California.

The only drawback from that type of tight setup is the radial pulse you can get with it, when I was full bore shooting I ended up using a "No Pulse" sling which alleviated having to get the shot away between heartbeats.....
Caption could be "Dagnabbit I shot a bird I was sure it was a bullseye!!!!"
