Webley .455 Mk V1

Possibly one of many for the future collection, picked this up yesterday
Although its lost a lot of its original finish its better than I expected and as tight as a drum, Bore is excellent with no pitting and crisp rifling.

At Carlisle we had a few old webley Mk6's that were used to teach the basic theory of revolver action and mechanisms. Much larger than the little Enfields and easier for us. There was also a beautifully made x3 large scale of the action, made from steel, brass and paxolin and the bents/operating/bearing surfaces were all adjustable with screw threads so that you could see the effects of wear and adjustments as if you were stoning the parts. I wonder where this went. There was also a similar model of the No4 and No8 action too. Mind you, it didn't matter how good or what scale the No8 action model was, I still never really got the hang of it!

Thanks Bruce, not the best regarding finish but the bits that count are excellent, was unsure of the finish at first as I though it may of been refinished at some point due to the V1 hardly visible and the side (Pic 5) looks like a thou or two has been linished at a slight angle...... may be when built or after a repair, maybe a new latch fitted? After searching the web the finish is consistent with others and to be honest if it was bad I would of refinished it but more than happy with it as is.

Regarding finish, I would gather it was a rust blue but some I've seen look more like they were (dipped in Caustic) most finish look like a very dark blue or similar to mine were its lost most of the blue. Anyone clued up on Webley bluing ?

Great looking Revolver Geoff, it's a classic British design icon, like the Spitfire, Mini or a route Master bus.
I've had a few over the years Geoff, finish wise (I will dig out the pics) they seem to go from a deep Matt blue to a sort of parkerised / oil type flat dark grey.

I always assumed the park "type" grey was later in the great war when perhaps the pressure of production led to a more basic finish.

If you wanted to shoot it Geoff, would you have to put it on Sec7.3 ? Is that possible with .455?

That would be the case John Sec 7.3 to shoot it, I believe many start out with Sec 7.1 then go to 7.3, I remember a few exchange PM's from the late Beerhunter who said it was how he started then moved them to Section 7.3, to be honest I'm more than happy just to collect....... (for now)
