Help with Luger marking identification
Hi Everyone
I recently came into posetion of a 1939 Luger that has a few miss matched numbers.
the only marking i cannot identify is a WR and number on the side. if any one knows what this is i would love to know

Probably a property/unit mark/ser nr from some user post WW 2.

The No.34 comes up as unknown in my book on German Proof marks and maker codes with no reference to the WR

The number 34 on the sideplate is simply the last 2 figures of the number of the P08 to which it was originally attached. - Lugers have numbers on parts where other pistols don't even have parts! Just about everything apart from the springs had the last two figures stamped on.
I am also stumped for WR. Note that the WR looks as if it was not stamped at the same time as the 5-figure number that follows.
This pistol is a "bitsa", assembled from bits and pieces from all over the place.

It could perhaps have been in South Africa at some stage. When for some reason the normal serial number was not used by the government to register a gun a WR number was assigned to it and stamped on. WR = Wapenregister (Weapons Register).
