No 7 Land bayonet finish?
Hi all, just a quick question if I may. Was the bayonet loop/ring and the rear locking mechanism on the enfield no 7 bayonet blued or painted with suncorite? I thought they were painted, as that was the approach taken with the no 4 rifles post ww2. Photos on line do make me wonder though....

Weapons were all blued before suncorite...likewise those bayonets.

They should be Parkerized with Suncorite baked paint finish. The blades were left polished. I can't remember seeing a No.7Mk.1 bayonet that was blued unless it was refinished outside of MoD control. The phosphate and paint finish was phased into all weapons production in the UK
at some point in 1944 and a these bayonets were produced well after that.

The loop/ring is the "muzzle ring" and the rear locking mechanism is the "Pommel" but in the case of a No7 Its a mix of Pommel and Socket..
Regarding the Bluing / parkerising I've seen ones which were blued and these weren't re finished. I would guess the very early ones were blued as they were made by Wilkinson.

Thanks for the pickup Bigduke. I have to admit I wasn't 100% on the terminology here, especially since the muzzle ring on the no 7 never went anywhere near the muzzle on the no4, and the pommel is a mix as you say - two for the price of one
