Remington 1903 appraisal and identifying

Hey Guys,

I have a few other old Milsurps, but I've never really looked into the 1903's. I found one today at a shop near me and I wanted to get an idea of what I should reasonably pay for it. It is a Remington, and appears to be a 1903 as opposed to a 1903A3. The thing that are putting me off a bit is that there aren't really any markings on the stock (And there appears to be a repaired chip and I'm not sure how that would effect value).

The Bore looks great, and aside from the chip in the stock and the missing retaining spring for the barrel band, everything appears to be in really good shape.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Looks like one that could have been "put together" from one that had been "sporterized". The upper band is from a Springfield/Rock Island. Any marking on the bolt?

Whey you say upper band, are you referring to the barrel band? I'm vaguely remembering seeing something on the bolt but I can't recall what it was.

I agree with M1903rifle--- Also, The stacking swivel, The lower band and lower band swivel are from an 03A3. Salt Flat

So what would you guys say a hodgepodge rifle like that is worth. Pawn shop near me is going out of business and I wouldn’t mind just having one to shoot.

I think this rifle is too early to have stamped parts. According to Rick the Librarian in another post states that "Stamped parts started being used in the 3,220,000 range" You might try posting in the 1903 forum where Rick might shed some more light on this subject. Salt Flat

IS it possible that the msmatched bands could indicate a re-build at some point? Yes, there were unbdoubtedly many of theose...
even the DCM, where they replaced unserviceable parts of many types and styles.
As far as the stock, it does have an Ord-Bomb on the forend, so, who knows. Refinished at some point, possibly/probably.
Buy it as a shooter, pick up the missing band spring, and do not worry about the mismatched parts- as long as the head space is
correct and SAFE to shoot, and replace mismatched parts later if you want it to "match".
Did I mis it, or did you not list the asking price? What are you willing- and ready- to pay for it, if they are taking offers?
I have seen 1903s' in "similar" condition at shows anywhere between $650~1,100, well, the asking price, anyway- selling price???
