PPU 303 elevation table

Does anyone out there happen to have an elevation table in minutes of angle for PPU/Prvi Partizan 303 ammunition?

I'm thinking of something similar to the table here (PDF) http://www.vcrai.com/Ballistic_table...blications.pdf

but calibrated for modern ammunition. I do know that that table is a straight copy of an original drawn up for service-issue Mk.VII ammunition, and I found out the hard way the other week that it really bears very little similarity to modern ammo's ballistic characteristics.

If such a beast doesn't exist, I'm thinking about devising one myself.

I understand and commiserate. But since the issue sights are calibrated for 'issue' ammunition, I went the other way. I have developed loads matching the original issue ammo so I can just use the regular sights.

That would not be difficult and simpler if you have a chronograph. However, once you have ascertained the trajectory, the original sight settings will not be correct.

Just for the tally book, according to my testing, PPU factory loadings with 174 grain bullets chronographed (average of two #1 Mk3 rifles) was 3380 fps. The Mk VII round was advertised at 2440 fps. Winchester - Western Olin 174 gr FMJBT averaged around 2480 fps.

Wow, that's a pretty amazing result! I reckon the .300 Magnum guys are jealous.

3380 fps! I hope that was a typo!
PPU factory comes out around 2350 to 2380 fps in my Enfields.

If you want a full sight table for that ammo; why not use one of the many on-line Ballistic Calculators. put in the bullet data and velocity and you'll get what you need ready to print out.

An elevation table in minutes of angle goes by velocity. Prvi 174 grain FMJ runs at 2460 FPS. 20 FPS faster than Mk VIII ball. Close enough to use the same tables.

Using figures at Prvi Partizan Ammunition we can calculate the BC using available ballistic software ("PCB" in this instance).

Range 1 (m) : 0 Velocity 1 (m/s) : 750
Range 2 (m) : 300 Velocity 2 (m/s) : 589

Calculated BC : 0.492
(Not too surprisingly, the published median BC for the Sierra 174 MK is 0.493. Close enough?)

Anyhow, input the BC and MV (2460 fps) into your favorite software routine and you can get all the trajectory data you want. If you don't already have a favorite, try http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin...j_simp-5.1.cgi

Useful information Parashooter, I just got some PRVI .310 174 FMJBTs to try in my .310 groove diameter Krag. I was wondering about the BC.

To add to this, I discovered by accident that if you zero the rifle with the original service method, PPU 174gr factory ammo shoots close enough (on military Figure series targets, anyway) to the Mk VII sight graduations for range work. I'm halfway through practical data gathering/verification for the table and I hope to have a complete and tested one back to 600yds this summer.
