I'd love to plough the backstop with a quad...the others bring back uncomfortable memories of snow bound days in the field... I'm sure Bear will have the shivers too...

Yes, lovely memories of the balmy winter breezes of Alaska. Like this one as we jumped in to protect the Barter Island DEW Line site ..... from evil and cruel polar bears.

Kind of reminds me of winter FTX at Grafenwoher. No fun but a picnic compared to what those boys went through.

That looks like a nice jump, nice soft snow and ice to break your fall...and hip...and rucksack frame...

Your wry humor is not lost on me. Yes, this windswept island had about 4 inches of ice crusted snow and of course the frozen lake that can be seen in the picture. Balmy temperatures in the 40s (minus 40s, that is). And hungry polar bears searching for G.I. sausage snacks.
Strange, I always thought the Arctic ice pack was as flat as Kansas. Looked like giant size ice cubes. And there is a cute one that looks like an ice sculptor of a bear....Oh, Cripes....it moved!
We did manage to photo record the Northermost streak of any US Military unit (1974) and my picture made it into the Anchorage Times (much to the chagrin of our Battalion Commander). Yes, Virginia, things do shrink in the extreme cold.
But alas, we were upstaged by a USAF Combat Control Team some months later as they accompanied a NOAA research team further north.

I remember it all well. Now I look outside and remember...when it's sh*tty out.
