Possibly 2nd Ranger Bn. Diamond painted on the back of helmet on the man to the far right.

If that is 2nd Ranger, those tubes could be the line throwers used at Pointe du Hoc.
Rangers indeed. I think those are line hauling rockets to get the grappling hooks up on the cliffs for the assault.
Two more observations:
1. they are still quay side in England. You can see stone steps in the background.
2. the bloke standing on deck nearest the camera appears to have demolitions kit for setting charges on the cliff guns.

Engineers with Bangalores I suspect. They just don't look like Rangers.
Yeah! After comparing photos, those do resemble bangalores. But that guy on the right does have a Ranger diamond on his helmet. Maybe one of the Omaha Beach ("Rangers, lead the way") Rangers.
