OZ Amnesties.
Used to think bad thoughts whenever an Amnesty was in the wind.
The last two I decided to get involved...….trying to save the odd one or two, as a dealer/Armourer I often had to work around unregistered bits, so it was a natural progression to put myself up as a receiving agent, with the option to purchase.
The last National Amnesty netted me a nice BSA No.5 and a couple of sporting rifles, tidied up and onsold.
This current State one which has only been going for a couple of weeks and runs to the end of September, has netted me an Enfield 1918, a Lithgow
1929, a couple of old Blackpowder pieces and a bloody big box of assorted powders and parts for them.
A chat with another dealer to keep a look out for the bits I'm interested in might bring the odd one or two more...……...seems strange to benefit from this sort of thing, but I guess that I am saving a few from destruction...…..just keep running out of safe storage room.

Mate, I for one am extremely glad you are doing it and that you are profiting from it. From my perspective, you are benefiting the shooting public by preventing perfectly safe, and potentially historical, firearms to go into the hands of responsible shooter and collectors. That is praise worthy in my book.

That's what I get for not checking what I type.

I feel you muffet. I've seen some nice old guns on the chopping block get saved. In fact I scored a few nice things, but it still breaks my heart to know there are so many more that get destroyed anyway, and we both know the pollies have a smile thinking about any gun getting the axe. Its a real shame in the long run for the majority, but some end up getting a new lease on life with people like you. Last one I scored I think maybe 5 old Enfields in varying states and a .310 cadet. There were two Long Tom, in sporterised condition, with one adorned with a Mk32 No4 Scope, and the other now halfway through being restored to full long tom spec. The real doozy I got was Lee-Speed action with Lithgow
barrel. Unfortunately it was the most butchered and breaks my heart to look at. Its one I will need a lot of time to track down parts and whatnot.
I'd still rather none of them be destroyed at all, but I'm asking miracles there.
