The Battle Of Brisbane
From my shelves, some may have heard of it, but this did happen here.
Sentiment was at the time Australia
had been hard pressed stopping the IJA in PNG after the Singapore debacle (The Great Betrayal By David Day) where the Brits pulled the plug on us.
The U.S service dress was way better tailored than our B/D they had scads more money than our troops and the stuff hit the fan sadly......

Not a little of the animosity that led to the riots was caused by the fact most of the Diggers had just come back from 2 years in North Africa and the Middle East, and then off again to PNG. And in rolls the Yanks fresh off of the transports with a month's pay and libido stored up. The Diggers weren't in the mood for a mouth full of cheek or competition.
