Did you try looking at the rear scope mount as suggested? Just curious. I guess since you will be loading cartridges and shooting this weekend, then JB and I can have your portion of the BBQ ribs???
Good Luck with the rifle. FWIW, 147gr. BT bullets for the 7.62 nato round won't shoot worth a dang in a 1:10 twist Springfield barrel.

Another solution to your shot-stringing problem is to pin up a deer in a small confined cage so you can get closer.

And splash some white paint on it so that it's not so hard to see.

John, you are a hoot!! I was going to tell swamprat that it is just a pet and don't worry about what it is!! But I didn't in case Jim had a better answer.
FWIW, I have a pet rabbit that my #2 son brought home when he was 8yrs. old. They swore that rabbits don't live more than 5 or 6 years. #2 son will be 21 yrs. in July. The rabbit is still alive. They say it's MY fault because I give him a carrot every night. Maybe we should eat carrots instead of ribs???

I did indeed check out the scope - no problem there.
That is a full grown North Carolina piebald deer. They are born that color and stay that color, and they have a hunched back, humped nose, and twisted legs. I think they are also all females, but I'm not certain on that part. The little deer has been released in heavy woods along the Black River on private land. I was getting very attached to her (I am a NC wildlife rehabilitator). Incidentally, small deer are very hard to keep alive, as they nurse for almost a year. They are like little bulls as they "bump" the udder, and that "bump" would knock the wind out of you. Ditto for little squirrels, but I have sworn off squirrels since the last hurricane brought in over 400 at one time.
I am going to miss those ribs, and the company, and I was bringing each of you a whole bunch of frozen squirrels!. I had some neat stuff to show you guys too (RB rifle, Niedner rifle, etc.). The person I found to take care of the farm in my absence backed out at the last minute.

Jim-
Pretty palomino you have there. Never seen one in the mountains, yet.
Hope you raise him right.
Spring is here, so I may have to get out my Remington sporter and see what happens. It's a blaster and I need to blast somethin'. Got my eye on a can across the holler. Submitted below, a new use for the old, broken mason jar. And a modified hunk of an Oregon volcano.
Happy spring to all.
