Saginaw SG carbine sight

I have a SG carbine that looks correct except maybe the rear sight which is a milled type. This carbine is in the 300900 range (I don't have it in front of me)is this the proper sight? If not where does one find a real flip sight for these? What are the proper markings. There is no date on the barrel what years was this made? Thanks for any information.

You should check your serial number again as the one you posted is for an Inland. And which Saginaw Steering Gear do you have? S.G. or S'G'. Your sight would only be correct on an S.G. in the 6 million range. Finding an original flip sight is like hitting it big on the lottery with most of the flip sights out there being fakes.

Unless he meant SG as in service grade.....This gets confusing sometimes....

Sorry, after closer inspection (pulling it out of the safe) the serial number is in the 3509XXX range. The barrel is Saginaw SG with no date, the wood is marked SG. Is that milled or flip sight? What year of production? Thanks Jppard

Your Carbine falls into a split serial number block. This block started at 3,250,020 as S.G. and later production went to the Grand Rapids S'G' plant, ending with 3,651,519. I'm not sure at what actual number the split occured. As far as I know SG only used their own barrels, but it may be possible they used mixed makers towards the end of their production.
S'G' had mixed use of barrels, using mainly Underwood and later Inland, Buffalo Arms and later SG.

In the range you mention a Flip sight would be correct. With the base marked with either the round or square S. The rounded S being the more common. The leaf would have been unmarked.
Before you go knocking that adj sight off, give us some more info. It could be possible your carbine is correct and just had a field up grade with the adj rear sight added.
Ways to help tell;
Would be to see what type of frt barrel band you have?
Any rebuild stamps or "P" proofs on the stock?
How is your rear sight staked?
Filling out a Carbine Data sheet is the best way to list your parts.

I have a SG 3,465,948 that according to the books is 99% correct....But it has a rear adj sight. No up grades other than the rear sight and it is some what crudely staked. I feel it may have been installed in the field.

Try listing your parts and taking some good pictures. We'll be able to help more.
Someone else will have to chime in with the date of birth.
