Help trying to identify a Mauser Carbine (M1893?)

Hi, I'm trying to ID a Mauser that I bought at a local gun show this past weekend, it has virtually no markings except the serial number on the barrel and receiver and a "R" on the barrel. I am pretty sure that it is in the M1893 series of rifles (1893-96) and that it is a carbine, I do not know what caliber it is, yet, there is no hand guard and no provision for one or a rear band to retain it. I tried to do some research online on it and came up empty, there is nothing that I have seen that resembles this configuration for a 1893 series carbine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
