Sorta looks like one of the neighborhoods here in Detroit, minus the soldiers.

That picture was not taken at Tarawa. There were no LVT(A)-1s at Tarawa. There were only LVT-1s and LVT-2s at Tarawa. There is also no seawall in the picture. Tarawa had a seawall on red beach where the main landing took place. There is also an LCT(5)in the picture. I don't believe LCTs were used at Tarawa. LCT 346 was built by Decatur Iron and Steel and commissioned in October 1942.

Tarawa
The diarama from the National Museum of the Marine Corps. They sent historians to Tarawa to make molds of the beach walls, etc., and then came back and molded them for the display.
Don't blame me - I voted for Palin.

556guy, that first hole, two carbines laying against it, closest one has a granade launcher on it. Lots of ammo crates, I'm thinking empty. I think a mix of Marines and Army but all seem casual. Could they be leaving? Thanks for sharing....Frank

Looks like you must have saved the ones I posted previously
I get to the museum 1-2 times a year and take all the pictures I can.
