Flintlock bench-rest rifle from 1670. That may be a trifle hard to believe, so here are a couple of links to museum-quality examples of the style.

The museal examples are, or course, splendid pieces of craftsmanship. What I have acquired looks as if it was made by someone who wanted an example for target shooting, not for show.
If anyone out there has an even older functioning rifle (not musket), let's see it!
