Nope. I was there as the research vessel I was on had docked there for an exchange of personnel. I was getting off and flying home. I had some spare time, and went for a walk. There was a series of placards showing where the Marines had landed, and how much progress they made each day. The next day's placard was sometimes 100 ft from the previous one. They each had a picture or two of what the island looked like from that point at the time of the battle (1944? if I remember correctly). Kwaj is only 2 miles long, and most of it is narrow enough to stand on the beach on one side of the island, and throw a rock into the lagoon on the other side! Nevertheless, it was the scene of some hellacious fighting.

I had a look on Google Earth and remembered the stories about wading from one attack to the next.
