No 32 MK3 scope question

Hi All,

I apologize in advance for the basic ignorance of my question.

Which is -

Should the elevation and windage drums move reasonably freely by rotating the knurled outer ring, or should the locking nuts in the centre of each drum be loosed first?

They should move with distinct clicks but freely.

Something is wrong, and I expect Pete will be along soon to give you the possibilities.

Roy has it in one. Loosen the locking nuts (the lead screw locking nuts incidentally) at your peril - accuracy speaking........! There is a torque reading to turn the drums but it gets complicated after that

Whats the history on the scope?
Has it sat for a long, long time?
If so, the grease has dried and needs proper servicing.
I had this on mine.
For me, someone was kind enough to leave the windage drum at full deflection before putting away for 40 years....

Some of the Indian scopes I bought two years ago are so gummed up with rust, 'Dulux' gloss black paint & general shXt that I have to soak them in brake fluid for a fortnight to stand any chance of getting them apart.

But in general, I agree; be very careful with oil & organic solvents in the vicinity of optical equipment!
