The last and final Springfield 1903A1 NM
Does anyone know what the last and final Springfield 1903 NM SERIAL number happens to be?
I know of a rifle that appears to be a NM rifle. Serial number 1522838. It has a late 1938 bbl, polished rails, electropenciled bolt, star gauge barrel, and all the correct markings.
I know Springfield stopped making rifles only 10,000 or so past this serial number.
This must be one of the last NM rifles ever made (if indeed it is a NM rifle).

Fascinating !!! This is very close to the last !
Is there a way to find out who this rifle was sold to?
It is basically in mint condition. I can post pics here in about 3 weeks.
Also, assuming mint and all correct, what may it be worth ?

Yes...........you can request a letter from SRS that will let you know the original owner.

Hope you do not mind a piggyback on your post. A friend just obtained a minty 03 SN 3022999 if you could be kind enough to provide SRS data on this one?

Just found out, the rifle has a letter from 2007. It was sold at Camp Perry in 1939 to a man from Kentucky.
What might this rifle be worth, assuming all correct and 97% condition?

The NM collector market has really taken a hit I think. I used to see a nice NM and it would sell for $3500 to $4500 or sometimes more.
But I've seen recently some in the $2500 range without a buyer, and they were really nice rifles.
But it seems to be across the board on M1903's as I remember when I sold a mint NRA marked sales rifle and got 5k for it. Today I would be surprised if I got 2k for the same rifle. The M1903 collector market has really seemed to go down.

That's really sad and surprising to hear! Do you think it is because most youngsters want "Tactikool" rifles?
These precision rifles are hand made works of art.
