RIP Alex Trebek
Longtime host of Jeopardy Alex Trebek passed away this morning. Not many celebrities that I feel a connection to but he was one of the few. Spent half an hour with him almost every day for over 20 years. A really good guy from all I could see. The show will not be the same.

The dumbing-down of the show was obvious over the years - I expect he probably fought that as best he could. In a filthy industry he stayed clean it seems; kudos to him.

Always seemed to be a class act to me. A real gent. His was the only show of it's type I ever spent any time watching. RIP, Alex.

Host of a TV show from which you could actually learn something and improve your mind rather than numb or poison it.
He left the world a better place and hopefully for a better place.

I grew up watching jeapordy on the only station the rabbit ears would pick up. After I moved away I lost the habit...until my good friend from grad school Ben Ingram made it to the show, had a great run spanning a couple weeks, and then took down Arthur Chu in the tournament of champs, coming from behind out playing him in the final bid. Brilliant work Ben! I liked Alex. They made a documentary about Arthur because of his playing strategy which all the old laities watching hated. Then Ben took him down - no documentary for him!

Last time I saw Ben after he gave the beat down, we sat at our old favorite hangout, the Salty Nut in 5 points, Columbia SC, and he talked about how Alex really was a genuine person.
He also said he made friends with Arthur, so I suppose I won't say more about what I thought about how he played the game.

My father-in-law, who is Filipino, was trying to tell me this and it took me a while to figure out what he was trying to say. I came in from the backyard and said;
Him: You know Jeff Pardy TV host died.
Me: I don't who that is
Him: on the TV show
Me: Still don't know who Jeff Pardy is..
About 5 minutes later it hit me, Oh... you mean the host of Jeopardy!
