Mk ! Type rear/back sight (micro) issue.
Hi I have an No 5 rifle, Mk 1 back-sight that was worn, turn the Adjust screw and adjust nut has worn threads, so in effect it the slide does not move at all.
I pulled it apart to fit a new/old adjusting nut and the plunger was missing, but it had a small ball bearing, which as you guessed it took off to the land of never to be seem again.
Now I have to replace the ball-bearings, am in a quandary on how to fit it back together.
The problem being how to hold the spring and ball bearing (2mm in size) in whilst I screw in the Adjuster screw?
As both the spring and the ball bearing have to be pushed into the recess before I can put the adjusting screw in properly.
By the way some pictures have an retaining pin not a ball bearing!
Can any one help with the assembly. Point me in the right direction.
I am in Aussie land.

You would do better asking this in the Lee Enfield section of the forums.

Simple, place a spot of grease on the ball to hold it to the spring, screw the knob down the shaft until almost touching the ball, place a box cutter blade on top of ball then screw knob down, compressing spring under blade.
Remove blade when almost fully compressed, then adjust knob for minimum backlash.
