poor range report

Lately I have purchased several rifles that were advertised as sub moa, I purchased a Maple Ridge Armoury Renegade in hopes of using up some 223/556. 19 inch barrel. 55 and 62 grain green tips were very poor 5-6 MOA at best. 100 yards. 75 grain match nosler worked very well. 2 MOA t Its not a plinker. it needs the good stuff. Not cost effective to purchase one. I put in a trigger tech Diamond in hopes of cleaning up the groups. did not change anything. Ammo is everything. I can now appreciate the effort that goes into hand loading.

I find 62 grainers to be significantly more accurate than 55 gr. in all my 1/7 barrels. Tried some IMI a few weeks ago and my groups shrank by a good 2 MOA over 55 gr.

55gr is too light for a 1/7 twist to expect anything more than mediocrity. They will, of course, create a consistent splatter at 100yds that stays on a sheet of letter paper. I use Hornady 68gr BTHP, or Sierra 69, and I can get 1/2" - 1" if I do my part, and do my homework to work up loads, with a colt a4 20" factory barrel.

When our ban came into effect, after selling off the offending firearms...I started with a Savage Axis in .223. Much to my dismay, I should have known better. Then I tracked down a Remington 700 in .223 and can engage golf balls at 200 yd with whatever of my handloads comes to hand. I didn't bother trying some of the new high tech efforts and had excellent results. Yes, the green tips need the right twist and so does M193.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a 700 in .223/5.56mm

I highly recommend it Bill...mine is a 20" to match my 700 in .308 and it shoots great, as illustrated verbally.

The Maple Ridge Armoury Renegade is built with a .223 Wylde chamber which is design with 62 grain plus bullets. With the long leade of the .223 Wylde chamber 55 grain are at best marginal at 100 yards. 62grain green tip are at best range ammunition. The .223 Wylde chamber is design for the 77 grain or larger bullets.

I have a custom Rem 700 throated to shoot 80 grain Bergers at one sitting my son fired in a bench rest 5 shot group at 1000 yds of 126mm C-C, you had 3 minutes of unlimited sighters looking at the monitor so you can adjust, so when you fired your 5 counting shots over 6 minutes the screen was turned away from you so you could not see your strikes.
It was bested with another shooter using a Barnard actioned .308 think it was 119mm C-C.

The rifle cannot shoot the 55 grainers at all like confetti at 100m.

I have had very good results with the hornady 80gr eld match bullets in my colt 20" barrel. Of course they are too long for the magazine and must be chambered individually by hand.
