Highly unlikely as that would be a massive undertaking . First guess is the shop thinks it is a M-95 , so thinks the caliber is 8x56r . The rifle still has a swiss barrel on it , so it would have had to of been removed , bored out , rifled and rechambered . The bolt face reworked for the larger rim , extractor work , magazine reworked for the rimmed round . Also the 8x65r did not come out until the mid 1930's , way passed any government interest in a 96/11 .

Well the shop did have it marked as a styer m95, but this rifle does have a 8mm bore

It looks like a standard IG 96/11. What makes you think it is 8mm? Clearly I wouldn't trust any of the markings they have on it because clearly they don't know. A .30 cal barrel (which is what 7.5 Swiss is) isn't far off from a .32 cal barrel (which is basically what a 8mm barrel is). You would need some precision equipment to properly verify the bore diameter.

Was told their gunsmith mic'ed it out to 8mm, and it did seem a tad bigger than a standard .30 cal
but so far it sounds like no other country ordered these in their own 8mm round, interesting

Their gunsmith also declared it a M95 so I would take what they are telling you with a grain of salt. Odds are it is still in 7.5 Swiss as it is all original otherwise.

I agree with Eaglelord. I've been in many gun shops and they have items marked as something else. I found a steyr m95/24 at a big local store just the other week. They labeled it wrong and had it labeled as 8x56R instead of 8mm mauser. They also had a Dutch Beaumont labeled as an Italian vetterli. I brought both up to the counter and told them. They said the gunsmith identified them and checked them so they just put them back.

Well I wouldn't be surprised, in most places there doesn't seem to be any Real gunsmiths anymore, hopefully it is 7.5, would be nice truley all original
