Help Identifying my Carcano
Bought a surplus Carcano Cavalry Carbine recently, and I've been trying to ID it to no avail. I've never gone through to ID a rifle before so not sure where to look. It does look like there is a R E Terni marking that is covered up by the Beretta and Gardone markings. Apologies for the bad camera quality. Thanks!

From looking at the markings you provided and comparing them to the book "The Model 1891 Carcano rifle" by Giovanni Chegia, Alberto Simonelli and Ralph Riccio I believe you have a Model 1891 Moschetto. The serial number puts its production in 1935. I could have sworn the picture of the date you provided looked like 1955 to me so I ran the serial number to verify as 1955 should not be possible. Plus the XIII "13" next to the date would put it in 1935 as well. The BERETTA GARDONE marking is not stamped over anything that I can tell it is just how this Beretta manufactured gun was stamped. Maybe im missing something due to the picture. At first I was thinking it was Beretta over a Gardone Val Trompia marking but it is correct to be on this rifle as is. Hope this helps get you started.
