I remember using those as ground targets on the machine gun range in Ft Lewis...

We rode on one in Chattanooga few years back when my son and I were visiting my folks. For the model train folks MTG even made a train car carrying two ducks!
Sadly I'm not sure if any are operating after the tragedy in Missouri (think it was there) where one capsized in bad weather.

I remember using those as ground targets on the machine gun range in Ft Lewis...
There's more than a couple out in the desert around Fort Erwin also. Lots of tanks, M37s, CCKWs, jeeps and all kinds of other MVs.

We only had so much to use as targets after use. US military had so much they'd keep them in stock and replenish or if we booked a range they would bring us out some fresh...and guys like me would weep openly as the gun crews started destroying collector vehicles...

Apparently they are still in reasonably wide use around the world and in the U.S. Back in the '60s and '70s, the Engineering Experiment Station at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, owned and operated a DUKW to carry on experiments on the Fort Loudon embayment of the Tennessee River in Knoxville. They kept it down in the parking lot of the boat ramp below Neyland Stadium. My father taught at UT and worked at the Experiment Station during that period and launched from that ramp so we used to watch it in action.
